Survivor, Brownie Edition

I did it. Yes, it was freezing. Yes, we got wet. But all in all? It really wasn't that bad. I had fun. I got to observe mGal among her fellow species, I laughed more than a little at the campfire skits (which were not held around an actual campfire, but in a lodge with a fireplace due to the monsoon), I refreshed my camping skilz (which I had more of than I thought) and actually felt that feeling you get when you spend some time out-of-doors in the fresh air and wonder you choose to spend so much time inside.

After spending some quality time with a bunch of 6-8 year old girls, and watching the older girls who had responsibility for running the encampment program, I think I learned a thing or two about raising older kids. I'm working that post out in my head. And implementing a few changes around here. Upshot: Compared to other kids, my kids are not as clueless as I thought they were, and yet, there is LOTS of room for improvement.

I leave you with some pictures. How was YOUR weekend?

Opening flag ceremony. We starting the ark building workshop right after this.

Looking at this never gets old to me.

Got our money's worth out of these babies.

Soaking wet leaves. We saw A LOT of these.

The reason why we were all there ~ Mother Nature. Even when she's pissed.

I've been waiting to read this post all day. It was a fun read and I loved seeing the pics - I had the images (from Tweeter) all out of sync in my head!

Congrats. This is one part of being a mom that I do NOT look forward to. Do you think the Brownies in Arlington would let a dad chaperone instead?

On the bright side, I bet there weren't too many bugs. And you weren't in tents.

Finding out your kids aren't as clueless as you thought? Priceless.

I loved reading this post! My 7 year old will be going on her first camping trip with the Brownies sometime this year (according to the Troop leader). If Daddy will let her go. He's a bit over protective! But I'm glad to hear how much training goes into the Girl Scout leaders. Maybe that will set his mind at ease.

Go ahead. I can take it.
