The never-ending quest for fitness

I've been working out at the gym while Little One is at school. I've also been trying to implement little ways to feel the burn at home. Putting away laundry one dresser drawer at a time ... up the stairs, shirts. Back down. Back up, pants. Back down.

I bought the 30 Day Shred DVD because everyone on Twitter was shredding. I was feeling a little left out.

I just started it today and by GOD it is a good work out! I'm only doing the beginner level and I have never sweat so much in 20 minutes in my life. (Except maybe the time I had a second chance to pass a Spanish fluency test just a few days before my college graduation, that I needed, you know, in order to actually graduate. There was some sweating.)

If you are looking for a good workout video with 20 minute workouts (and you can handle a tiny bit of sadism), check it out. I will lend you mine if I end up in the hospital. Because as soon as the ibuprofen wears off, I might need to go there for a morphine drip. (Jillian Michaels is the trainer from The Biggest Loser.)

I'm TRYING to eat sensibly. And if I could just take a nap between 4-7pm, I would be in good shape. I never considered myself a stress eater, but that is a STRESSFUL time here and that's when I'm in the kitchen and, well, that's where I keep the crackers. And hummus. (click there - that is the BEST hummus on EARTH. Fo reals.) And popcorn. And bread. And wine. (Lord, don't forget the wine.) If I could just teach my kids to do their homework, drive themselves to practices, make dinner and STOP TRYING TO KILL EACH OTHER, they wouldn't need me so much during that time and I could sneak in a nap. I don't see it happening.

Today, I'm going to try to make a little veggie tray, with a small amount of hummus (you know, anything less than a WHOLE GIANT SIZED CONTAINER) and snack on that. With one glass of wine. One. Don't take my wine away. Seriously. I'd have to hurt someone.

Operation Take Back my Body is getting off to a start, if somewhat of a sputtering one. Operation Take Back the House, however? Going nowhere fast.

I have a very exciting surprise for tomorrow! I'll post a link in the morning so you can check out what I have been working on in my *cough, cough* free time*cough, cough*. (And it's not cleaning!)

  1. Oh, no. You too? Is it really all that everyone says it is?

With all the wine parties around here, I may have to start it too!

  2. You do know that white wine has far fewer carbs than red, right? In my book, it's practically a health food!

Keep on shredding. It's pretty slow-going on the motivation here.

  3. You may have convinced me to try the DVD--I need something I can fit in in a short time. I'm lifting at the gym and doing a pilates class, but 3 days a week isn't really enough.

I'm so with you on the Hummus. Have you tried Eggplang Hummus from Trader Joe's? Yum!

Go ahead. I can take it.
