Appointment Season

The Foot Whisperer day must be rescheduled. He doesn't take appointments. You call before you go to see how long the wait is and to figure out how many things you will need to bring to keep your kids occupied. The last time we were there, he was getting ready to be off for a long break due to some surgery and we waited 2.5 hours. And he was worth every minute. But you have to be prepared for these things.

The Foot Whisperer (FW, for short) is an older gentleman who owns a fancy kids shoes store over on the fancy side of town. (Picture a kinder, gentler Dick Cheney. Without the shotgun.) He is THE expert when it comes to shoes and orthotics for kids with special needs. And for Little One, she can get her orthotics right there, because hers aren't too complicated. He's an integral member of our medical team. And honestly, her gross motor skills would be crap if it weren't for him. She could walk, but not well at all until we were sent to him. And his magic fixed her all up.

And sitting in the store waiting for him is kind of like attending a special needs support group. I've met some great moms and dads there with kids with varying issues.

But, FW is on vacation. ("What???!!") The guy works his tail off and he's close to 70 if not beyond, so he deserves a vacation. But now I will have to take 4 kids with me when we go next. Bring on the valium.

Tomorrow, we have the geneticist. (A speciality I didn't even know existed before Little One.) He's kind of our case manager. I used to get very stressed out before appointments with him because we had so much ground to cover. Now, I'm happy to see him. (He is one of those rare highly-regarded, famous doctors who is actually a great, caring, child-oriented healer. Sigh. I love him.) I think all of our issues are well under control, so I don't expect any surprises this time.

And maybe, just maybe, we will even have time to hit Nordstom on our way home. (Since I'm all about combining trips and saving gas these days.)
