Here's now it went.
6:30 pm - Little One falls asleep face first into her dinner. (Me = great! This will solve the problem of how will she do falling asleep in the big girl bed.)
6:35 pm - Gently lay her down in bed with soft music and white noise machine playing, darkening blinds drawn.
6:35 and 5 seconds - Little One opens her eyes, looks around and immediately becomes very excited and wide awake because she is in her big girl bed.
6:40 pm - I give up on any hope of getting her back to sleep at this point and stick her in the tub.
6:50 pm - The tub is violated by Little One. I will say no more. Panic ensues.
8:00 pm - Put Little One back in bed, read her a book, tuck her in and turn out the light. "See you in the morning." (as IF)
8:01 - 9:00 pm - Little One alternately cries, screams and gets out of bed and starts running amok.
9:00 pm - I lay down with her.
9:01 - 9:15 pm - Continuation of the crying, screaming and running amok.
9:15 pm - Stern talking to and punitive removal of baby doll and favorite blankie.
9:15 - 9:30 pm - Heart-rending sobs.
9:30 pm - Re-issuance of baby doll and blankie. I lay down with her again.
9:30 pm - 2:00 am - Little One tosses and turns. Every time she moves, she wakes up and realizes she is not in her crib. She lays on me, next to me, pushes me out of the bed. Cries, moans, snores, wakes up again. I am so tired at this point, I can't move.
2:15 am - Rocket Man comes in and reminds me that I didn't finish de-contaminating the tub. (Yes. There is someone awake in our house 24/7.)
2:15 - 5:00 am - Bleach tub, bath mat and tub toys. Run laundry. Clean up entire house.
5:00 am - Hear newspaper hit the front lawn. Birds start chirping.
5:05 am - mGuy has nightmare and needs me to lay down with him.
5:06 am - mGuy is extremely itchy and wants me to fix it. (His nickname is Itchy.)
5:20 - 6:45 am - I finally sleep. As does everyone else. (I think.)
6:46 am - The day begins.
9:26 am - 3 cups of coffee and it's not even touching my neurological system yet.
Tonight, we are ALL taking melatonin! But until then, I am making more coffee. But first, I must go plunge a toilet. (Because my kids really like to make sure I am not bored while they are at school.)

It will get better. I mean, these kids will be moving out one day, right? Right???
I hope tonight is better.
Dude..
I hope she does better soon. Definitely use the melatonin.
And I have an itchy kid too. And they DO expect you to just fix it.
Sleep, Little One, sleep.
deja vu. when the girl (now 11) moved into a big girl bed we'd take turns laying down w/ her (and falling asleep). we even tried putting a giant cardboard cut out person (like those you see in store displays) in her room hoping she'd think someone was w/ her. needless to say THAT didn't work.
i hope it gets better AND that you have no tub violations tonight!
so I could have called you at 2:00AM your time to chat? I was up too.
The only thing that this whole story is missing - uh, Rocket Man - go clean the tub yourself.
Aww, Sue. That's a rough night!! The first few nights (or weeks...but we'll say nights) in a big girl bed are really tough...but it will get better!! Just keep the coffee handy for a bit. And let Rocket Man take shifts with you! A girl needs her beauty sleep! ;)
What about having mgal sleep with her? Will that work (or will it then keep mgal up?). Some nights when my younger one can't sleep, I'll find her in bed with her big sister.
Just went to Pump It Up...totally exhausts your kids! They are sweating big time at the end of the play time.
ohmigosh CK that is SOO funny - the cardboard cut out of a person. hahahaha! I would think would scare me!
This was hilarious to read. I'm sure it was far less fun to live through. We also have our fair share of screaming and thrashing, etc. that started after Q moved from his crib.
Fortunately, however, Alex knows I would probably actually kill him if he asked me to clean a tub at 2 in the morning. (Or 2 in the afternoon, for that matter.)
I'm nervous to read about night 2...
