Fat Tuesday

I am going on a fast for Lent. A shopping fast. (God help me.) Of course, I will be buying food, diapers, gas, coffee... the essentials. But nothing else. 40 days. 40 l-o-n-g days. So, in preparation, I spent the last two days shopping my ass off.

One of my New Year's resolutions is to upgrade my wardrobe. It is long overdue. The stuff I have been wearing while having and nursing babies served it's purpose, but I'd like a little more of a put-together look now. My other resolution is to refurnish the downstairs family room. Both of those involve some serious shopping. But for the next 40 days, it will be window shopping. (Just as soon as I place this order sitting in my basket on Target.com!)

My shopping carnival started with J. Jill. They sent me a coupon, see. (Bless those people!) It was for $25 off, which is a deal that should not be passed over, in my opinion. So I started there, just to try on the blouse of my dreams, which was overpriced, but when you throw in a $25 off coupon, well, let's just say, the dream can come true. Of course, there was a tank to go under the shirt that matched perfectly. It didn't seem right to get the blouse without the tank. Then there was another tank on sale for almost nothing. I couldn't pass that up. Then, right at the checkout counter was The Necklace. The one that they made to perfectly match The Blouse and The Tank.

Sigh.

I would never be able to wear them now and be happy if I knew that necklace was out there somewhere and I didn't have it to tie it all together, you know?

Today, I hit Target, as I usually do on Tuesday mornings when Little One goes to the sitter and I have my blessed 2.5 hours alone. I got my skinny vanilla latte (Starbucks RIGHT INSIDE Target ~ they must have known I live nearby) and grabbed a cart. The only things on my list were a clothes steamer (as I was also planning on giving up ironing for Lent, and really, for EVER) and rain boots (since tomorrow is the day we are supposed to build an ark or something). The steamer was out of stock. (I'm not the ONLY ONE trying to give up ironing, I see.) The only rain boots in my size was a pair of two right feet. So I am pushing an EMPTY cart through Target. (So wrong, so very wrong.) So, I thought I'd stroll through women's clothes and see what was on clearance. Well. I ended up with 2 t-shirts, 2 pairs of pants, a sweatshirt, a VERY cute Isaac Mizrahi pink cardigan and some ballet flats. And I only just went over my expected budget. Not bad. It will have to sustain me now for 40 more days.

Here is the J.Jill blouse. Uh, no, that's not me wearing it.

And here is The Necklace. You can see what I mean, right?

Well, the picture is a little small, but TRUST ME.

And the pink sweater from Target, which I will be wearing tomorrow. (Too bad it won't be accompanied by my rainboots.)

Hi there -

Got to your blog from Stimeyland which I found from my friend la vida cochinillo. I also went on a shopping fast for Lent and I am LOVING it. I also have a small Value Village addiction, so I'm also fasting from shopping at VV (although I have a small grandfathered list of things I'm always on the lookout for). Hope it's going well for you.
