Clean Sweep

Since we aren't moving to the Big House any time soon, we are re-shuffling things a bit in this house. The computer is currently in our bedroom. Convenient for me, but a huge pain in the ass when there are 4 or more nine-year old boys in there playing Runescape.

We are trying to move most of the kid-related activities to the basement. We bought a new flat screen TV, put it in the basement playroom family room. Had FIOS hooked up (hi-def, oh JOY!). Got a Wii for Christmas, set that up. Fun new room to hang out in. Right?

Well, we started to notice that we couldn't watch that nice TV while sitting on the crappy futon that was our "couch." Or looking at the snot-yellow paint that has been on the walls since we moved here. And surrounded by all things Fisher Price.

So we (and by we, I mean I) started generally sprucing up the room to be more of a family room. New paint. Pictures on the walls. Less toys. Nicer furniture. (Finally! We are getting rid! of the college-era futon! As soon as Lent is over and I can shop again! You know it's all got to be ready for the big wedding First Communion in May.) Here is the sofa I must have. (From IKEA.)

And the chair. (It matches... and I must have seating for all the 9-year old boys in the neighborhood. Don't go judging me now.)

Also in the basement is an office. Rocket Man has a little desk down there where he pays bills. But otherwise, it has become a storeroom. Mostly for toys that are out of rotation. In order to move the computer downstairs, those toys (and random other crap) need a new home. The attic.

Attic is really a misnomer - it is a teeny tiny room over what used to be a porch. And that was full of crap too. Including many, many bins of clothes. Remember, I am cheap. If I bought one set of 2T girls clothes, I am not buying another. I keep everything. I could probably clothe an entire elementary school.

But I digress.

The clothes are staying, but there's plenty of other junk up there that isn't. We hauled everything out. We took a big load to Value Village (our local thrift store).

We filled up two big trash cans (plus some) and a recycling bin.

And 4 bags of clothes to pass on.

I feel like we gained an extra room! There's so much space in that teeny attic now, I am tempted to make it a bedroom for one of the kids. (There's no heat in there though, so it would have to be the kid who is getting on my nerves. And that is just too hard to choose.)

But, we will fill up all this space, not with an annoying kid, but with the junk stuff from the basement. And then, my friends... we will have AN OFFICE! (Dare I hope that this will actually work?)

  2. Whoa! That is not in MY plan! But the 2T girl I have may still be in that size for summer (which is what's in the bin right now)!

  3. My oldest is addicted to Runescape! What is it with that game? Now my 9 year old GIRL is also playing it.

I can't wait to see the game/play/family room when you have it all finished!
